Daily Drivers: Great Watches for Under 5,000 Euros

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Goodplanet

The anniversary of the Moon landing and last year’s launch of the new Seamaster 300M line overshadowed the Planet Ocean models a bit. Not only has Daniel Craig worn this watch in his role as James Bond, but the timepiece has also been a favorite of many Omega fans since it was first released. The Planet Ocean is so much more than Omega’s answer to Rolex’s own diving watches. In fact, it’s almost an injustice to compare the two. The special editions are particularly distinctive, including the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GMT Goodplanet. This great looking watch has a 43.5-mm titanium case with 600 m (1,969 ft) of water resistance, a Co-Axial GMT movement, and a polished blue bezel with an orange 24-hour scale for the GMT function. It’s a very beautiful and practical timepiece with an amazing deep blue dial that makes it instantly recognizable to every Omega enthusiast.

Enthusiast’s Corner: Rare or Exceptional Timepieces

Omega Speedmaster X-33

While the Speedmaster X-33 gets a lot of love from Speedmaster fans, it’s largely unknown and underappreciated outside of this circle. We, however, fall into the “Speedmaster fan” category and would like to shine a light on this fantastic timepiece. It remains as revolutionary today as when it first debuted. Even though the first and second X-33s are no longer in production, they are still extremely popular. Many NASA astronauts still prefer their 2nd generation X-33 watches to the current model, the X-33 Skywalker. The X-33 we’re talking about, the first generation ref. 3290.50.00, is worth the investment. For starters, it’s not a huge watch (a bit under 42 mm in diameter) and is relatively lightweight thanks to its titanium case. Admittedly, the design is something you either love or hate. As for me, I love it. It has a number of useful features, such as a light-up dial and 60-minute diving bezel. If you’re looking for a tool watch that you can pick up without having to set the time, the X-33 is a great option.

Iconic Timepieces: Great Value for Your Money

Vintage Omega Constellation

We’ve already covered Omega’s major models in previous Editor’s Picks. This Swiss brand has created many iconic timepieces, from the Seamaster to the Speedmaster and beyond. However, there’s one series in particular that deserves a lot more attention. I’m talking about the Constellation, especially those with the so-called “pie-pan” dial from the 1960s. To me, these epitomize the Constellation collection with their looks and high-quality movements. The Constellation premiered in 1952, but the most beautiful examples came out in the 60s. I’m particularly fond of the reference 168.0005, a watch that’s rumored to be the work of none other than Gérald Genta. It has a slim case with elegant lugs, a pie pan dial, and a chronometer-certified movement. This timeless vintage timepiece could still easily serve as the perfect dress watch today.
