Description
The Patek Philippe World Time (ref. 5130R) features a mechanical automatic movement; 24 time zone indication; and 39.5mm, 18k rose gold case on a brown blue alligator strap with a deployant clasp.

The 5130r is a throwback to an earlier era. The unique ring shaped hour hand is drawn from the original Patek World Time watches from the 1930's and gives the piece a wonderful vintage feel. A larger case size (now 39.5mm, as opposed to 37mm on the older model) adds improved legibility, and the elegant, hand-guillochéd center makes this model a horological work of art.

Patek Philippe updated the previous world time model 5110 with this new reference 5130 to a great response from collectors. When pictures of this watch were first circulated, I thought the 5130 would be an incremental improvement over the 5110. Even Mr. Stern himself commented that the 5110's dial was crowded. Well, "in the metal" this new 5130 is really something special. The new case is 39.5mm diameter, which helps not only modernize the watch in terms of current style, but also allows for more space between the 24 reference cities printed on the dial making it significantly more legible. Plus, the hour hand is a reproduction from Patek's earliest world time watches. The central guilloched area on the dial is also a great feature. Way to go Patek!

Case is 18k rose gold with diameter of 39.5mm. Sapphire crystal. Button at 10 o'clock advances the hour hand and world time time indicator in one hour increments. This allows the traveler the ability to change time as he or she travels through timezones.

Dial is silver. Inner zone is guilloched with hour markers. Surrounding this area is a ring with numerals '1' through '24' which represent the 24 hours in a day. This ring turns counter clockwise, making a full rotation once every 24 hours. The time in the 24 reference cities, printed in the dial's outermost area, can be seen simultaneously with this world time system. In my opinion, this manner of tracking world time is much better than watches which merely use a 24 hour "GMT" hand, forcing the wearer to calculate worldtime versus simply reading it at a glance as this watch allows.

Movement is the Patek Philippe Caliber 240 HU with 33 jewels and 48 hour power reserve. The caliber is stamped with the Geneva Seal.

Strap is brown hand sewn crocodile with 18k rose gold Patek deployant clasp.
