Description

Rolex Bubbleback 14k Yellow Gold/ Pink gold 14k produced, now looks more like yellow, although I recently installed a new crown, the clue to it's pink gold is the fact the only crown they made for this reference is a pink gold crown. So on it went, and to be honest, I have not had a chance to research this further. I think they made a lot of 14k Yellow Gold bubblebacks, and this one was made post WWII so it was an era of production!
The case and case back are threaded screw in pieces, so the bezel screws on to a metallic piece that protects the movement - it is encased all around it, the case back then tightens the threaded portions. Very tricky to do, and need to know what you are doing!
Anyways, although the watch is serviced/ cleaned it has also been a few years since I have had it. The watch will maintain modest time-keeping, if it does +/- 1 minute per day (Or best that) I will be happy to note, since I do not take it out for a spin like most collectors do, I would not know the full detailed weekly time-keeping. ON the Witschi Master, it keeps to within 10 secs/day.. but that is in just 2 positions. Expect it to be +/1 minute per day.
The case serial number is crisp and clear, the reference number is on the insides of the case back- it reference 3131 is also a well documented Bubbleback model. The watch dial is mostly super clean, but note that there are two or three areas of discolorations, and I will be 100% honest it is not totally clean, the camera does not pick up on these areas.
As from a cool watch, from the 1940's this is a post war watch, they made these watches with a lot of finesse, screw down time adjustments and the balance wheel is hand adjusted. The movement's machining is just amazing, the watch ratchet portions.. from a watchmaker's point of view, it is superb! The rotor weight has that whirry wheels going around noise when you shake it! It is a good watch to own, I did not address the glass- it is a mineral crystal with a few scratches to it, but I left it there as a mark of wear and tear. I suppose if I am given a chance to find a crystal for it, it is entirely possible to order one. I wouldn't know how well it would sit. And a custom mineral crystal will be in the 100$ range. (Fitting, shipping etc.) so please be kind to the watch :)
