If ever there were a rare modern Patek wristwatch, this would be it. Here is Patek Philippe's first automatic chronograph in their 170+ year blue-ribbon history. It's also Patek's first flyback chronograph. And, due to the caliber's unique construction, the central chronograph seconds hand can be operated continuously (to serve as a conventional seconds hand) without harming the mechanism or adversely affecting accuracy.

The reference 5960 also features the first completely in-house chronograph caliber from Patek since the early 1980s. (In the interim years, all of Patek's chronograph calibers have been built from Nouvelle Lemania ebauches). Finally, this chronograph is the first to feature the 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph indicators in the same subdial.

This Patek masterpiece also provides an annual calendar, with the day, date, and month displays arranged in an arc from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock. Within the chronograph subdial there is a small aperture that displays a day/night indicator. To round out the complications, a power reserve indicator is located just underneath the date window.

The case is solid 18kt Rose Gold with a sapphire crystal front and back and measures 40.5mm in diameter. This timepiece features a magnificent and rare Gray Anthracite 'Nickel Arg Obus' dial with applied hour markers with adjacent luminous dots and luminous hands. The chronograph subdial is oversized, and accordingly very legible. Chronograph hours scale is printed in blue while the minutes scale is in red. The associated chronograph hour and minute hand are the same color as their scales for ease in reading the elapsed time.

Movement for this watch is the Caliber CH28-520 which, once again, is Patek's first-ever automatic chronograph. Featuring column-wheel construction, with 456 individual parts, the caliber also makes use of a 21k gold rotor, 50 jewels, 55-hour power reserve, and is stamped with the Patek Philippe Seal.

Overall, this watch is not your grandfather's typical Patek Philippe. It was a hit from the minute it was released. This watch takes Patek to an entirely new stratosphere; making it a watch you can wear and enjoy both casually and formally. The strap is a hand-sewn Patek brown crocodile with a foldover Patek Philippe deployant clasp.
